Project Bandhu - The Largest Rural Retail Network in U.P.


















PROJECT BANDHU
1 Project Objective:
Uttar Pradesh primarily being an agricultural state stands as a model for rural retail markets.
Our mission is to create employment opportunities for the educated youth in their local environments as well as to create a thriving network of dedicated workforce to execute an efficient rural retail network through empowering one household as a retail hub at a population of 2000-5000 villagers i.e. a Gram Sabha.

2 Organizational Profile:
We are pleased to introduce ourselves as an organization with a unique USP of working in all the seventy (70) districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Our services are being extensively utilized by the health sector viz. UNICEF, UPHSDP, SIPHSA, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, etc.

Films Division, Govt. of India, with the idea of making available the great movies produced by them to one-and-all, has given the responsibility of Uttar Pradesh to Simco Foundation for a five-year period.

This gave rise to the vast network of film exhibitors’ throughout the state of U.P. who is well trained in film exhibition with their own Power backups & transportation.

We have appointed District Chief Exhibitors at every District and under them have a grass-root team of Screening Agents who perform at the Block/Panchayat level. The basic qualification for the appointment being Graduation & most Importantly being a resident of the said district makes a knowledgeable Work force, which would go to any demographic locale in any region.

3 Rationale:
A rural household would be selected through a meticulous procedure undertaken through our network of agents comprising of a graduate unemployed youth and at least one educated & married woman.
A single business opportunity would not suffice for the family to engage. Thus based on our survey and research we have designed a bouquet of products and services so as to guarantee a minimum accrual to the household.

4 Description of Household Retail Activities:
We have, to start with, identified three major sectors of retail and services, viz.:
FMCG-Hindustan Unilever Ltd. Dealership & Retail
Communications: PCOs and Mobile retail
Insurance: General, Fire, Life and Health
The above three put together would need the whole household to become a business hub where in the combined effort would bring a decent earning along with empowering the household socially.

5 Rural Outreach Targeted for Phase-I:
The east U.P. circle of Telecom comprising of about 48 Distts. would be our target to be networked in Phase-I.
The west U.P. circle and Uttranchal shall be covered in Phase-II.

7 Time Line of Activities:
Distt. Sitapur: Identification, orientation and initiation of household has started in Development Blocks Rampur Mathura & Reusa.
Sitapur has been identified as a pilot Distt. in this region and is expected to have 1000 rural households identified.
